Gypsy Rose Blanchard has officially joined Instagram following her release from prison.
The 32-year old shared the photo of her hotel room on Instagram in celebration of her upcoming chapter, which began on Friday morning. “First selfie of freedom!” she wrote in the caption. Gypsy’s mirror selfie revealed her smiling while holding her hand placed on her hip.
Gypsy spent eight years in jail after planning to kill the mother of her child, Dee Dee Blanchard, along with her then boyfriend Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn. The man, whom Gypsy was online with did carry out the plot while Gypsy concealed in her bathroom at home.
Dee Dee subjected Gypsy to ineffective medical treatments as well as convincing her daughter and other family members that Gypsy, now aged 32, had a myriad of ailments when she was a kid. In the courtroom, it was claimed that Gypsy was the patient of Munchausen syndrome via inference.
Commentaries to Gypsy’s Instagram photo express support for her journey outside of prison. Jennifer Turpin — the oldest of the Turpin siblings shared her support via a post. “Awesome! You look amazing!” the writer wrote.
Others urged Gypsy to focus on her mental health as she adjusted to life. “YOU LOOK GORGEOUS GIRL! I wish you the time needed to adapt,” one commenter added. “Treat yourself with respect and be aware that lots of people are wishing you the best throughout this new chapter.
A candid interview was conducted with PEOPLE prior to her release, Gypsy claimed she would change her past If she had the chance. “If I had another chance to redo everything, I don’t know if I would go back to when I was a child and tell my aunts and uncles that I’m not sick and mommy makes me sick, or, if I would travel back to just the point of that conversation with Nick and tell him, ‘You know what, I’m going to go tell the police everything,'” Gypsy stated. “I kind of struggle with that.”
However, she’s adamant about her sadness over the loss of her mother. “Nobody will ever hear me say I’m glad she’s dead or I’m proud of what I did. I regret it every single day,” she explained.
