OnePlus has at long last established itself in the same competitive environment as the best smartphones available today. The OnePlus 9 Pro aspires to be a killer flagship rather than a flagship that can compete with other flagships. Because of this, not only does it have to compete head-on with the greatest, but it also needs to go up against more reasonably priced flagships that are vying for the same spot it formerly held. The Xiaomi Mi 11 is the most notable of such potential competitors. In this head-to-head matchup, the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 11 go head to head to determine which smartphone comes out on top.

Design
When sketching the first outlines of the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 11, the designers for both companies were probably going for the same overarching idea: simplicity. The glitter factor has been dialled down on both of these phones in favour of a more simple approach. Both the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Mi 11 are refined pieces of hardware that don’t go overboard with unnecessary flourishes but instead give an understated and sophisticated appearance.
Both the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 11 have designs that are uncannily similar to one another.
Sandwiches made of metal and glass can be found in this location. The OnePlus 9 Pro uses curved Gorilla Glass 5 and aluminium for its construction, but the Mi 11 use the more modern and durable Gorilla Glass Victus for both the front and back of the device. OnePlus has not provided an explanation as to why it chose not to go with the high-end choice. Every one of them has an enticing mirrored finish that stirs up feeling. In contrast to the OnePlus 9 Pro, which transitions from dark to light colours, the Mi 11 goes from silver to blue.
Because of the phones’ comparably comparable dimensions, shapes, and weights, their usefulness is not much different from one another. The OnePlus 9 Pro is able to edge out the Xiaomi Mi 11 thanks to OnePlus’ dedicated alert slider, but this is only a narrow triumph for OnePlus. The SIM card tray, the USB-C port, and the downward-firing speaker are all found on the bottom borders of both of these phones, which is eerie. The OnePlus 9 Pro only supports one SIM card, but the Xiaomi Mi 11 can hold two SIM cards at once. This gives the Xiaomi phone a slight advantage over the OnePlus 9 Pro.
On the back of each gadget is a camera module that is unique to that device. The aesthetic of OnePlus is more gentle and analogue, and it features a straightforward and unoffensive design. The one that Xiaomi offers is a little more in your face, featuring multi-tiered ledges and a combination of silver and black accents. The camera modules, without a doubt, stand out among the rest. In this regard, I think OnePlus has the better strategy.
A classification of IP68 is one item that might be considered an objective advantage for the OnePlus. It is shielded from airborne particles and liquids. Not so with the Mi 11. Shame.
What exactly is the deal with those screens? AMOLED technology, changeable 120Hz refresh rates, high pixel density, 20:9 aspect ratios, and HDR10+ are all features that are present across all of these displays. The OnePlus 9 Pro is distinguished by its 6.7-inch screen, which is made possible by its LTPO technology, which also contributes to the device’s enhanced performance. The screen of the Mi 11 is 6.81 inches and boasts a higher pixel density than previous models. The screens appear to be very similar to one another when viewed with the naked eye. Both of these options are equally good.
Features
Both of these mobile devices come equipped with a number of essential components, including high-end processors, ample amounts of random access memory (RAM), and storage space, capacious batteries that can be recharged in a short amount of time, multi-lens cameras with high-pixel-count sensors, and hefty user interface skins.
First things first, let’s find out how much these ships’ engines weigh. Both rely on the high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, which is paired with the Adreno 660 graphics processing unit (GPU). The OnePlus 9 Pro may be purchased in either an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage or a 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration, depending on the user’s needs. In either case, you will have a strong foundation to work from. The Mi 11 has a touch more stifling constraints. Although it only has 8GB of RAM, it still has the same 128GB and 256GB storage options as its predecessor. Keep in mind that neither phone is compatible with microSD cards.
Second, let’s investigate the various power sources that are used by these handheld devices. Within certain parameters, OnePlus did not hold back. To begin, the battery has a rating of 4,500mAh, which is standard for a flagship device released in 2021. We discovered that the battery lasted for a day when it was set to the default setup (dynamic refresh rate, full high-definition resolution), but by the time bedtime rolled around, it was on its last legs. When put through a rigorous amount of use, the battery can die before the end of the day. That is not very encouraging news.
OnePlus is obviously hoping that its lightning-fast charging technology will make up the deficit. The OnePlus Pro 9 has charging capabilities that are among the quickest we’ve seen so far. For instance, it comes packaged with a 65W charger and has the ability to charge from 0% to 100% in a little under half an hour. Wireless charging, which can reach up to 50W when using the optional Warp Stand, can virtually match the speed of wired charging. It’s too bad that third-party chargers don’t get the job done as quickly. More battery life can be obtained by switching the phone from its default mode, which operates at 120Hz, to the 60Hz mode, which consumes less power.
The lasting power of the batteries in both of these options is comparable.
The strategy that Xiaomi took was rather different. The battery itself has a capacity of 4,600 mAh, which is sufficient to power the phone through an entire day with plenty headroom left over. After a full day of testing, it was extremely uncommon for the battery to have a capacity that was lower than 50%. This was the case despite the fact that rigorous benchmarks were being run, the camera was being used, and games were being played. These findings were obtained with the display set to Full HD+ and the refresh rate set to 60Hz, which is the factory default setting for the display. The battery life is drastically reduced, although it is still sufficient to last a day if the refresh rate is increased to the maximum of 120Hz, which is optional.
Additionally, the device charges really quickly. It is capable of charging at 55W when connected to a wire and 50W when wirelessly charged. The package that Xiaomi ships its products in has a 55W GaN charger. It took the phone 47 minutes to fully charge from 0% to 100%. Although this is lengthier than the OnePlus 9 Pro, it is still a fantastic achievement. The conclusion that can be drawn from this is that the two devices have comparable battery lives.
Cameras come in third. In collaboration with Hasselblad, the German camera manufacturer, OnePlus developed the world’s most sophisticated camera system to date. The device possesses a main lens with 48 megapixels, an ultra-wide lens with 50 megapixels, a telephoto lens with 8 megapixels, a monochrome depth camera with 2 megapixels, and a selfie camera with 16 megapixels. It would appear that every modern function is included and taken into account, given that it is capable of recording video in an 8K resolution.
The main and ultra-wide lenses are where OnePlus and Hasselblad focused the most of their attention, and they are also where you’ll witness the best performance. We are not quite talking about the same level as the Pixel 5 or the Galaxy S21, but it is not that far off from that level. The ultra-wide lens has been optimised to assist reduce distortion, while the telephoto lens has a maximum magnification of 3.3x both optically and 30x when cropped digitally. To summarise, the cameras included on the 9 Pro are really good, even if they aren’t very impressive.
When it comes to the cameras, we have no choice but to award the advantage to the OnePlus 9 Pro.
When it came to developing its own camera package, Xiaomi was not as successful as OnePlus. To begin, it possesses a main camera with 108 megapixels, an ultra-wide camera with 12 megapixels, a telemacro camera with 5 megapixels, and a selfie camera with 20 megapixels. The primary sensor does a decent job, but the additional cameras aren’t quite up to par in terms of their performance. The telemacro is the source of the most dissatisfaction. It is not particularly useful for either telephoto photography or macro photography. At least the performance of the video is good. In the end, we cannot help but conclude that the OnePlus camera is superior in this regard.
And last, the programme. Both handsets use Android 11 as their operating system. There is no contest: the OxygenOS 11.2 user interface skin offered by OnePlus is far superior to that offered by Xiaomi’s MIUI 12. OxygenOS 11.2 is more refined, user-friendly, and helpful on a day-to-day basis, in contrast to MIUI 12, which has nothing fundamentally wrong with it.
OnePlus 9 Pro can be purchased for $969, £829, €899, or Rs. 64,999.
Xiaomi Mi 11: $889/£649/€749/Rs. 63,999
With the launch of the OnePlus 9 Pro, the company has introduced its most costly smartphone to yet. Prices for the Galaxy S21 start at $969 for the model with 8GB/128GB of storage and go up to $1,069 for the model with 12GB/256GB of storage. It’s a good thing that OnePlus stepped up its game and made a piece of hardware that can justify the high price tag it carries.
The Xiaomi retails for close to $889, making it a more wallet-friendly option. The price difference is warranted and makes sense from a value standpoint given the inferior performance of the camera on the Xiaomi Mi 11 smartphone. The prices of both phones are, more or less, appropriate.
When the pricing difference is taken into consideration, it is clear that the OnePlus 9 Pro is the superior alternative in India. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, the price difference between the OnePlus 9 and the Xiaomi Mi 11 is only negligible.
Which smartphone is better, the OnePlus 9 Pro or the Xiaomi Mi 11?
The OnePlus 9 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 11 are quite similar in many fundamental respects. Both have sophisticated exteriors, large displays, capacious batteries, and high-end photographic capabilities. In addition to that, you will discover quick charging, a large amount of storage, quick processors, and numerous layers of software.
OnePlus comes out on top thanks to its superior and more practical camera setup, its essential IP68 rating, its lush and bright display, and its more streamlined and intuitive software. In terms of hardware personality, durability (due to Gorilla Glass Victus), and compatibility for dual-SIM cards, Xiaomi comes off as the more impressive competitor.
Both phones offer a fairly satisfying experience in most respects, but the OnePlus 9 Pro offers a more polished overall package than its rival.
It is important to note that despite the fact that the OnePlus 9 Pro is aiming for a slightly higher market than the Mi 11, the Mi 11 is still Xiaomi’s closest competitor. This is because the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is only available in China, and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is aiming even higher at the ultra-premium tier of the market.
Keeping this in mind, the decision between these two smartphones comes down to personal preference on the aforementioned nuances. Both phones offer a satisfying experience in most respects, but the OnePlus 9 Pro is superior in terms of the total package it offers. In comparison to the Xiaomi Mi 11, it has a higher price tag, but the additional expenditure is money well spent.
