As an air assistant for 5 years I’ve experienced all you can imagine in an plane.
Although I am incredibly happy with my job but there are some things I’d like to modify, or at the very least inform my customers about.
I had a conversation with a few of my colleagues and came up 17 things that we wish our customers would not do.
We are not able to be ignored at the door to board isn’t exactly polite.
The moment you board establishes the mood for the whole flight, so we appreciate it when you introduce yourself to us.
You’ll be amazed at how many people hop onto the train and don’t look us in the eye however they will take their trash off at the door without even saying any word.
Humans are just that and if your flight attendants can greet good morning to more than 200 passengers in an aisle, I believe the passengers ought to be able repeat it at the very least once.
Do not ask us if we’re going to be able to establish your fast connection when we’re landing at the right time.
We are aware that flying can be stressful , and connections can be a challenge However, please refrain from booking through third-party websites that do not even provide 30 minutes between flights. This isn’t enough time.
I don’t know how many times a person have asked me whether I’m likely to be able to make their connection if our flight is landing on time or in the early hours. However, if you’re required to inquire for a response, it’s likely not.
If you’re allowing your self less than an hour to travel between the flights, then you’re overextending yourself.
We are tired of being poked to draw our attention
When I asked colleagues about their no. #1 pet peeve was this was the answer.
I don’t understand why people believe that it’s acceptable on a plane. If you wouldn’t be doing it in any other setting for customer service then why would you do it to do it on a plane? You wouldn’t ask your server to serve you in the restaurant do you?

The idea of removing your shoes while traveling is disgusting
Stop getting your shoes off during flight and then walking around on the plane in bare feet. I’m not even able to tell you the number of times that I’ve watched an adult adult go into the bathroom with no shoes on.
I don’t think I have to go into detail however, here’s the reason I don’t think this is a good concept:
- It’s gross.
- The neighbors you live with probably don’t like stinky feet.
Do not request blankets as we generally do not have any additional items
The airliners and airports are well-known for their coldness. frigid.
Even if you’re flying directly from Florida to Cancun take an extra sweater to carry inside your luggage. It’s a good idea and you won’t regret it. In general, it is recommended to wear a warmer outfit for the airport, or dress in layers so you’re prepared.
I’m not sure how everyone was influenced to believe that we had hundreds of blankets in the airplane.
We don’t appreciate when you ring the bell to take our trash
Our job as flight attendants to walk around the cabin following the drinking service to pick up garbage. We do this all throughout the flight, so there’s nearly always one of our crew members within the aisle (as as long as there’s no disturbance).
It’s a bit annoying when someone rings their bell, so that we can go take out trash, but we’re likely to be there and did not have gloves or a trash can in our bags.
To make life simpler, you can utilize the motion-sickness bag that is in the back of your seat to serve as your personal garbage bag during your flight. When you are done with the flight, make sure you seal it and return it over to us.
If you do not keep your headphones on when conversing with us, it becomes more difficult to talk to us.
Even if you don’t have headphones playing any music, it’s hard to hear us or to realize the level of quiet you’re speaking, so we’d be grateful if you could switch off your headphones while you’re talking with us.
It’s a bit frustrating when we walk into the cabin to give you snacks and drinks and you stare at us while we attempt to finish your drink.
It’s not a good idea to go to the bathroom when you arrive on the plane, or even when you get off
This occurs almost every time you fly..
There’s always a long line of passengers at the back of the plane during the process of boarding, which makes it more difficult. The line increases time the seatbelt switch goes off when the plane is at a level.
The level-off time is also the time when we try to get the beverage cart into the aisle so that we can begin our service. When there is an enticing line of users trying to go to the bathroom, it’s difficult to begin the service.
The best way to go about it is to try using the restroom at the terminal prior to boarding or wait until we have finished our service.
We aren’t able to allow you to play your music or video loudly at full volume.
Be sure to bring headphones as we’re legally required to instruct you to turn them on or off on your personal device when you’re playing a loud music.
Do not bother to argue with us regarding the face-mask policy.
I didn’t apply to serve as the face-mask police when I was offered the job. However, no matter the position of me or you on the issue of masks I still have to enforce the policy on masks on planes in the event that you are required to by CDC or The Federal Aviation Administration require it for air travel.
Airlines have been very rigorous on this. In the event of non-compliance, you may not be able to fly again with us or continue to your flight later that day.
Please do not use that galley to be your own yoga studio.
We understand if you’re in need of stretching the legs but you’re unable to perform it in our galley, which is the part of the back or front of the plane where carts are, and also where the crew members sit.
It’s not just difficult for the crew of the flight It’s also an FAA policy that states we shouldn’t permit passengers to gather in these areas.
What other airlines do will not change the way you fly.
Just because another airline is doing something, doesn’t necessarily mean that the flight you’re on as well.
Each airline is unique. You wouldn’t walk into the McDonald’s expecting to find the Popeyes menu. Airlines kind operate in exactly the same way.
You should wake your neighbor to give them a drink or snack may not be as polite as you think.
If you have a neighbor who is stranger and they’re sleeping, do not wake them up. I guarantee they won’t need airplane food so badly.
If they awake earlier and are in need of some food or drink They can make use of their phone light.
It’s possible to ask us about the area we’re flying to however, we’re probably not know.
Contrary to what is commonly believed in reality, the majority of flight attendants don’t have a predetermined route so this isn’t my route.

When you get up in turbulence, it puts those in the vicinity at risk
It’s like when it gets incredibly bumpy everyone gets up.
Sometimes, I think people don’t realize that you’re at 30,000 feet above ground in a tube made of metal and that weather isn’t always predictable.
If you’re able to be patient, be patient until the seatbelt light is gone to go to the bathroom or get up from your seat. It’s also a good idea not to make a call in the event of an emergency, as the crew on your flight doesn’t want to put themselves at risk for their own safety as well.
Unsupervised children could be dangerous and unjust to other passengers and crew
I am a huge fan of children and would be willing to assist you should you require it. However, the fact that I’m a flight attendant doesn’t mean that I am necessarily a babysitter.
Every day I witness many parents who board an airplane and then get tired or simply don’t look at their children to be left unattended.
It’s unfair to the crew or passengers. The airplane is public space. The fact that they’re not able to leave the plane during a flight isn’t a guarantee that the plane is the safest place to be in.
Don’t vent your frustrations on us.
I know that flight attendants are a representative of the airline, but the constant yelling at us for issues beyond our control is exhausting.
I can understand that lots of times , people simply require someone to talk with, however you must realize that the flight attendants you see are just employees that you meet. There’s a vast group of people behind us, doing their best to perform their jobs.
I’m passionate about my job and try my best to assist customers however, a lot of time , I’m not able to help the things I wish I could. Sometimes, the best option is to guide you to a number for customer service to call once we have arrived.
Humans are also human and this year has been challenging for everyone, even the flight attendants.
