Anyone who calls themselves a gamer should be aware of Grand Theft Auto. This is because it is one of if the most recognizable series in gaming, a status that can be attributed to the quality of the games themselves alongside the series often being surrounded by controversy. Although GTA has certainly enjoyed much time in the spotlight for presenting questionable material in their games, this has in no way stopped people from buying the games as they simply offer too much quality gameplay to be passed upon.
Most people who enjoy GTA frequently will now be aware that Rockstar, the traditional developers of the game, have announced a new release to the franchise. Seeing as how it has now been over eight years since the latest installment was released, fans were hoping for any news of GTA VI, the hotly anticipated next game in the series. However, fans were met with disappointment as it was soon revealed that the new release would be a remake of already existing GTA games, which include Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
There is no doubt that these are timeless games that many gamers will remember playing fondly, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a particular standout in this regard. However, this is not to say that this is what most fans wanted. Every release made by any game studio will always have at least a few who will be there on the day of release to purchase that game, but it is not always what most gamers wanted from that game studio. This can certainly be applied to Rockstar, as they will be well aware that most of their player base is patiently waiting for the next GTA year after year, though there is no doubt that this patience is wearing thin, especially when valuable development time has been taken up to work on this remastered trilogy.
This is not to say that there will not be many who enjoy the upcoming trilogy, or whether it will even be good. There is no doubt that any game from Rockstar will always be amazing, and they have rarely failed to hit the mark. However, at some points, a line must be drawn in the sand. GTA V has satisfied gamers since 2013, but it is hard to justify a release like the remastered trilogy coming out when gamers have been left without a new release in the franchise for over eight years now.
Grand Theft Auto V is also a perfectly fine experience that players have no problem enjoying, making the release of the remastered trilogy even more questionable. There are many activities within the game to bring player enjoyment, such as the existence of an in-game casino. Those who have been following certain gambling news like the latest Illinois gambling laws will know that those who reside in the state cannot legally gamble online, which is why many appreciate the existence of an online casino they can access in GTA Online.
Eight years later, and players are now ready for the next GTA. While the trilogy will no doubt be great to play, there is no question that the release was unnecessary.
