The Australian probiotic technology business PERKii is thrilled to announce the debut of its brand-new 100% plant-based, non-fermented Sparkling Probiotic Drinks into over 700 Coles Supermarkets across the country. This comes only a few short months after Coles Express rolled out two different flavours in their stores.
The non-fermented Sparkling Probiotic Drink that PERKii offers has only 45 calories per serving and is bottled with 1 billion plant-based probiotics. It is also combined with natural flavours.
PERKii’s point of difference is its Targeted Release Probiotics, which are micro-shielded to resist stomach acid up to 10,000x stronger than non micro-shield probiotics, allowing for a specific release in the gut. These probiotics were initially created at the University of Queensland. Recent studies indicated that over half of all people who ingest probiotics (49%) were aware of the potentially harmful effect that stomach acids can have on living probiotics.
As a popular non-fermented alternative to kombucha, the new product from Coles comes in two naturally sparkling flavours: watermelon and mint cucumber, as well as ginger kick. These flavours will be found in the chilled aisles of the store.
At PERKii, our primary objective is to make our one-of-a-kind probiotic technology accessible to the widest potential audience of customers. Carl Ryan, the Head of Sales for PERKii, explains. “Within the realm of effervescent functional drinks, what we have seen is that there is a growing desire for non-fermented alternatives.
Not only does our exclusive micro-shield technology enable our probiotics to withstand the acidic environment of the stomach and make it safely to the intestines, but it also enables us to provide natural flavours that are not bitter, which is quite exciting.
Bifidobacterium, a plant-based probiotic strain that has been well researched and documented, is one of the probiotics that may be found in PERKii Sparkling.
The micro-shield technology used by PERKii was developed at the University of Queensland and is intended to shelter probiotics from the damaging effects of stomach acids as they go through the digestive tract. As soon as the probiotic reaches the lower intestine, it sheds the micro-shield that was protecting it and attaches itself to the intestinal wall, where it then begins to multiply.
Carl claims that the rising demand for non-fermented items in the functional and more precisely the probiotic category has had an enormous impact on the recent rapid growth across the PERKii brand. “We receive feedback from consumers expressing how energising it is to find a drink that tastes as fantastic as our range does, especially our new Sparkling, with the additional advantages of our targeted release probiotics,”
In the moment, PERKii’s Probiotic Drinks may be purchased all throughout the country at Coles, Woolworths, Coles Express, Caltex, Zambrero, and other independent and chain stores.
PERKii Targeted Release Probiotics: Some Background Information
The PERKii system employs a micro-shield technology that allows for the controlled and targeted release of beneficial probiotics in the stomach. Each probiotic is encased in a natural alginate barrier, where it is both protected and nourished, and is designed to withstand the acidity of the stomach as it makes its way to the intestines. For a change that you can actually experience.
Still and sparkling versions of naturally flavored PERKii drinks, each of which contain at least 1 billion CFU of targeted-release probiotics per bottle, are now available from the company.
