In this segment, we take a look at a few of the product concepts that are appearing all over the place. Some of them are fascinating, others sound incredible, and others are the kind of thoughts we would never even consider having. Because we are unable to produce content on every topic that is suggested to us, we have culled the following material from our email inboxes.
The Doritos company generously covers their chips in ketchup and mustard.
Ketchup and mustard are two of the most traditional condiments, and it can be difficult to top either one of them. Frito-Lay is capitalizing on the enormous popularity of toppings by releasing two limited-time-only varieties of Doritos that will only be sold on its direct-to-consumer (DTC) website, Snacks.com.
The flavor of Doritos Ketchup is reminiscent of the acidic and somewhat sweet taste of the traditional tomato-based condiment. The flavor is making its debut in the United States after a variety quite similar to it become extremely popular in Canada. And in order to get a powerful and fiery effect, Doritos Spicy Mustard derives its taste inspiration from Chinese hot mustard.
When compared to other Doritos flavors, ketchup and mustard could appear to be a tad on the mild side. The tortilla chip snack company has released over a hundred different flavors, some of which are only available for a limited time, such as Mountain Dew and Late-Night Cheeseburger. The company is also well-versed in the world of condiments, having previously introduced tastes that were influenced by Tapatio hot sauce as well as a shrimp mayonnaise type that was sold in Japan as a limited-time offer (LTO).
But ketchup is a sure bet because the vast majority of homes in the United States have a bottle of it stashed away in their refrigerators or kitchen cabinets. Other snack manufacturers, such as Lay’s and Herr’s, have used it as an ingredient in their potato chip flavors. Although it has made a brief appearance as a flavor for snacks like potato chips and wonton chips, the usage of Chinese hot mustard in Doritos makes the brand a bit more of an outlier than other similar products.
The next step that Frito-Lay should take is to investigate the viability of releasing a mayonnaise-flavored Dorito in the United States market. According to Statista, the sales of the condiment made with eggs significantly outweigh those of ketchup in this country. Or, if that sounds too decadent for the palates of most Americans, why not try a flavor that takes its cue from the mayonnaise-ketchup hybrids that have been appearing on store shelves thanks to companies like Kraft Heinz?
Unilever melts for Popsicle-inspired doughnut flavors
Unilever has devised a method, with the help of an unusual friend in the form of the doughnut, to prevent your popsicle from melting in the warm weather of the summer.
The consumer packaged goods firm is collaborating with Krispy Kreme to develop three limited-edition doughnuts that are modeled after its Popsicle and Good Humor brands.
The Popsicle Firecracker is an original Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut that features icing that is modeled after a popsicle. It is then coated in blue raspberry sugar and finished with dollops of flavored Kreme.
The Vanilla King Cone is comprised of a sugar cone that has been filled with vanilla custard Kreme, dipped in chocolate icing, and topped with a combination of chopped peanuts and pieces of sugar cone that have been drizzled with chocolate icing. And the Creamsicle has a vanilla custard Kreme center, icing that is modeled as a Creamsicle, and a drizzle of white frosting and small sprinkles for garnish.
Is it appropriate for a doughnut to have the flavor of a creamsicle? Yes. Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme, was quoted in a statement, “Yes, it should.” “And we didn’t stop there as we doughnutized some of America’s favorite frozen delights this summer,” the company said. “And while we were at it…”
In addition to that, a frozen drink that is modeled after a Creamsicle will be made available.
There is nothing unusual about Krispy Kreme introducing new and innovative doughnut options that capitalize on the popularity of another brand. At the beginning of this year, the company entered into a partnership with Mars Wrigley’s Twix and General Mills’ Cinnamon Toast Crunch for the production of confections that were modeled by the renowned candy and cereal, respectively.
Popsicle doughnuts are another opportunity for Unilever to promote customer awareness of the product outside of the frozen aisle. Popsicle is already one of the most successful frozen novelty brands in the United States, and doughnuts are just one more option to do so. According to data provided by Statista, the Popsicle was the fourth-biggest frozen novelty brand behind private labels during the 12 weeks that ended on February 21, 2021. It generated a total of $42 million in sales during that time period.
We are all yelling for cannabis; I scream, you scream, and we all scream.
Many people who consume cannabis in the edible form are accustomed to satisfying their cravings with sweets like candies or baked goods; however, two companies are working to bring the drug to a well-known frozen dessert.
MariMed, a producer of cannabis, and Emack & Bolio’s, a brand of ice cream located in Boston, have collaborated on the creation of a new line of ice cream that contains THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana. MariMed’s full-spectrum oils were used in the production of the ice cream, which results in each container having 20 milligrams of THC. Cup O’ Coffee Chip and Chocolate Sunny Days, which are the first two flavors that are now available, are both cruelty-free and may be purchased at a MariMed dispensary in Middleborough, Massachusetts.
However, not all of the delights will be made from vegan ingredients. MariMed has stated that it plans to sell dairy products at a later date in addition to other items and that it will expand its availability beyond the state of Massachusetts in the following months. According to Dairy Reporter, the companies want to launch a 16-ounce size in addition to their first two flavors, which are now only available in containers containing 8 ounces.
“It has been a lot of joy working with other people on this collaborative endeavor to perfect our cannabis-infused vegan and dairy ice creams. “We did a lot of testing, and of course, we tasted everything,” Bob Rook, the CEO of Emack & Bolio, said in a statement. “At long last, a cool product with clean ingredients and a delicious flavor,” the customer exclaimed.
MariMed and Emack & Bolio’s delights are not the first to combine cannabidiol (CBD) and creamy desserts, despite the fact that they are rather innovative. Ice cream manufactured by Jane and Mary’s, which is situated in Chicago, is available for purchase and contains either 150 milligrams of THC or 50 milligrams of CBD per 8 ounces. Ice cream with flavors including Tanzanian Vanilla and Orange Whip, each of which contains 5 milligrams of THC, may be purchased from the Massachusetts-based company Cloud Creamery.
The presence of cannabis in the food and beverage industry has continued to grow, despite the lack of clarity around its regulatory position at the federal level. Consumers have been able to enjoy in a wide variety of goods that include THC or CBD, such as coffee and beef jerky, amongst a plethora of other options. According to data provided by BDSA, a cannabis research company, the market for foods infused with cannabis is anticipated to reach $6 billion by the year 2025.
