Tracy Beaker’s mum really is a Hollywood star after all… (Picture: BBC/Netflix)
Tracy Beaker fans have spotted a familiar face in Bridgerton – Tracy’s mum plays Lady Violet Bridgerton – proving Tracy wasn’t lying about her being a famous actress after all.
Fans of the children’s books and TV series will recognise Ruth Gemmell, who plays Tracy’s mum Carly Beaker as she stars in her new role on the Netflix series.
In the Tracy Beaker books, the main character – played by Dani Harmer – has spent most of her childhood either in a care home – which she labels ‘the dumping ground’ or in various foster homes.
Tracy has always claimed to the other children in the home that the reason she is there is because her mother is a famous Hollywood actress who couldn’t look after her thanks to her glittering career.
While most assume Tracy is lying about her mother’s profession, it is later revealed in Tracy Beaker’s Movie Of Me that her mother does indeed work in the film industry, but as a stuntwoman rather than the leading lady.
However, the fellow residents of the dumping ground are sure to get a shock if they tune in to watch new regency drama Bridgerton, to realise Tracy was actually telling the truth all along…

Viewers of both shows took to Twitter to express their surprise at seeing ‘Tracy’s mum’, aka actress Ruth, pop up in Bridgerton.
They tweeted: ‘The fact that Tracy Beaker’s mum is in Bridgerton. She really was a famous actress after all, I knew Tracy wasn’t lying.’
Others added: ‘no way tracy beaker’s mum is in bridgerton’ and ‘Wondered for a second who played the Viscountess Bridgerton, turns out its Tracy Beaker’s ma.’

Some were finding it hard to differentiate between the characters, adding: ‘Omg Tracy Beaker’s mum being a Hollywood star in Bridgerton’ and ‘I absolutely LOVED #Bridgerton on Netflix but I could not see Lady Violet Bridgerton as anyone but Tracy Beaker’s mum – she really was a famous actress after all.’
Looks like Tracy’s finally been proven right at last.
