One of New York City’s most celebrated cookies is getting a fall makeover.
Levain Bakery, best known for its oversized sweets, has made an autumn addition to its lineup.
The limited edition Fall Chocolate Chunk cookie — made with Valrhona chocolate, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and molasses — is available for $5 apiece now through the end of October at all Levain shops.
Among the several boroughs-based locations are those on the Upper West Side (167 W. 74th St.), Williamsburg (164 N. 4th St.) and Harlem (2167 Frederick Douglass Blvd.).
The fall-inspired treats are also available in packs of four, eight and 12, as well as in variety packs of those same amounts that also include Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip and Chocolate Chip Walnut cookies.
For those who can’t make it into a store, the packs are also available for nationwide shipping at levainbakery.com, and range in price from $29 to $69, depending on the size. Shipping costs vary based on location.
If you snag the Fall Chocolate Chunk while it’s still around, Levain recommends heating it in the oven at 350 degrees for about three to five minutes, or until it’s “warm and gooey.”
Levain launched as a bread shop on the Upper West Side in 1995, and became well-known for its chunky 6-ounce cookies. Besides the Brooklyn and Manhattan locations, there are currently also shops on Long Island and in Washington D.C., Maryland and Boston, with plans to expand to Chicago and Los Angeles later this year.
