National Ice Cream Day has been one of the sweetest of holidays for dessert lovers since former President Ronald Reagan named it in 1984.
Here are some delicious specials to enjoy on the occasion Sunday.
Carvel’s Brookie ice cream
Carvel’s new Brookie flavor mashes brownie batter ice cream with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and mixes in cookie dough pieces, brownie bites and chocolate chips. On Sunday, customers get a buy one, get one free offer on a small cup or cone of any Carvel soft-serve flavor, including Brookie.
The Social’s “Let The Dogs Out” ice cream
Doggone it. The Prospect Heights, Brooklyn-based ice cream shop The Social has created a hot dog ice cream — a sweet and savory concoction they call “Let the Dogs Out.” Made with toasted bun ice cream with caramelized Nathan’s all-beef hot dogs, the first small batch they sold created such a frenzy with customers that co-owners Jackie Cuscuna and Brian Smith decided to make more. “We decided we needed to see if we could actually make it good — and nothing says summer like a Nathan’s hot dog and sweet bun ice cream,” Cuscuna said. The owners were the founders of the popular Ample Hill Creamery ice cream chain.
Milk Bar Fruit Cereal Milk ice cream
Ice cream as breakfast? Why not? New York-born dessert destination Milk Bar’s latest ice cream flavor is Fruity Cereal Milk, which has a crunch thanks to Fruity Pebbles. The flagship bakeries of James Beard Award-winning chef Christina Tosi will sell the new flavor nestled between two Fruity Cereal cookies and rolled in rainbow sprinkles to make a sammie.
DiGiorno’s Croissant Crust ice cream cones and savory ice cream
Frozen pizza brand DiGiorno wants a pizza the action with its online sweepstakes for a special treat: A croissant crust transformed into an ice cream cone that comes with two savory ice cream flavors, Strawberry Tomato Basil and Parmesan Cheese, created in partnership with Cleveland-based Honey Hut creamery.

Van Leeuwen’s Grey Poupon with Salted Pretzels ice cream
This icy treat will cut the mustard. Dijon mustard brand Grey Poupon partnered with Brooklyn-based artisanal ice cream company Van Leeuwen to create a condiment-laced frozen dessert, which is a blend of sweet ice cream, honey-dijon swirl and salted pretzels. Look for it at Walmart.
Ace Hardware and Benjamin Moore Paint ice cream
Color us happy. Home improvement brand Ace Hardware has teamed up with paint company Benjamin Moore to give away free ice cream inspired by popular Benjamin Moore paint colors, like French White 1093, Mint Chocolate Chip 436, Strawberry-N-Cream 2103-70 and Cocoa Brown 2101-20. Answer an Instragram questionnaire and you could get these flavors delivered to your home.
Blue Bunny offering Paid Time Off (PTO)
Blue Bunny’s special is the cherry on the top. Citing a recent survey that showed 61% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, the Chicago-headquartered company is currently accepting PTO (paid time off) requests until July 20. It will then choose 365 people to enjoy a PTO day on Blue Bunny — with a Visa gift card valued at $300. That works out to $37.50 an hour, which is five times the national average minimum wage. Applicants must share online why they deserve a day off. Comedian Kat Stickler has been tapped to help sift through applications in her new role as the brand’s Chief Fun Officer.
