The Hairy Bikers’ Dave Myers has given his first interview since undergoing chemotherapy after revealing he had been diagnosed with cancer earlier in May.
The chef, 64, appeared to be in high spirits despite his health woes – and even got told off by his wife Liliana for a cheeky jibe during an episode of his Agony Uncles podcast.
Proudly exhibiting his bald head, he quipped that his TV presenter partner, 54, partner likened him to ‘Stanley Tucci who’s been sleeping behind the library for a month’ while chatting to his sidekick Si King, 55.
Dave has declined to specify which type of cancer he has at this time.

And in a clip shared to Twitter, the TV personality joked about a historic skiing trip to Switzerland that he enjoyed ‘on the cheap’.
At the beginning of the show, Dave says: ‘Thank you to everyone who has sent in a goodwill message to me. I do appreciate the good thoughts. I’ll get there. As you can see, I’ve embraced the baldness.
‘I looked at my wife and she said, “You look like Stanley Tucci who’s been sleeping behind the library for a month.” As a great fan of Stanley Tucci, I’ve embraced that. I quite like it really. I’ve got the beard. Nice, fresh for the summer.’
Confusion arose when Si claimed Dave’s new look mimicked the ‘chestnut barnet’ when they first met, since it was ‘always tanned’.

Why DOES chemotherapy cause hair loss?
Chemotherapy are life-saving drugs, which work by killing cancerous cells. However, the medications are so powerful they can destroy healthy cells elsewhere in the body, including ones in the hair roots. This can cause hair loss, as well as fatigue, nausea and an array of other unpleasant side effects. ‘Some treatments cause only partial hair loss or thinning, while others cause people to lose hair from all over their body,’ the NHS says. Hair usually begins falling out within a fortnight of starting the gruelling treatment. It can drop out rapidly in clumps, or gradually. Some patients are given the option to wear a ‘cold cap’, which reduces blood flow to the scalp. This limits the amount of chemo drugs reaching the area, helping to prevent hair loss. A couple of months after chemo ends, it usually starts to grow back. Although, it can appear different. ‘Your new hair might have a different texture or colour,’ according to the US-based Mayo Clinic. ‘It might be curlier than it was before, or it could be grey until the cells that control the pigment in your hair begin functioning again.’
Si began: ‘When we first met, that was your look and you always had a chestnut barnet,’ to which his pal questioned, ‘Chestnut? Oh, I thought you said, “You always had chest nuts.”‘
In response, Si said: ‘No! Your head was always tanned.’
Dave concluded: ‘It will when I get out there! It’s a bit fresh. It’s quite nice, getting in the shower just washing it… it started falling out so I said, “Mrs Myers, get those clippers out.”
‘Face adversity with courage. I quite like it actually. Thanks for asking. You’re a gorgeous mate.’
He said in a clip shared to Twitter: ‘Years ago I went skiing in Switzerland but I used to do it on the cheap, I used to stay in a bunk house so it was posh skiing.
‘You’d have loved it, Tash, but it was on the cheap. And I ended up with a German police woman! She was strong, a strong lady.’
Sharing the footage to the social media platform on Friday, in his caption, he wrote: ‘The debut of the baldy biker (getting told off by his wife).
‘Happy Friday folks!! Brand new episode of the Agony Uncles is out.

Dave and his Romanian wife have been married since 2011 and they live with two children from her previous relationship.

Dave said: ‘Anyway Kingy, I’ve got to come clean now, I haven’t been too well recently and basically, I’ve got to have some chemo, you know all this anyway, so this year is going to be a bit quiet for me, I’m not going to be filming, some of the festivals I’m not going to be able to go to, some may be okay but this year’s a bit of a write off for us.
‘I have had to speak up about this because I don’t want to hide under a rock, but I would love it if people respected my privacy and just let me get on with it and give Si and our team all the support they need, that would be great. But look, the prognosis is okay, I’m going to be fine.’
He continued: ‘I’ve just got to tuck in, look after myself, eat sensibly and get over this mess, flog books, and be a happy person so within that, that’s where I am.
‘I may be a baldy biker for a while so it’s just a warning, I don’t want to make a fuss about it, I look alright bald actually.’

Talking on their podcast The Hairy Bikers – Agony Uncles, Si replied: ‘No listen, when I first met you dude you looked like an upside down Hells Angel so I like that look, I’ve always liked that look, you look cool’ with Dave saying: ‘Yeah I know, and under different circumstances I would embrace it more but I feel under these circumstances it’s simply something I have to live with.’
In 2018, the TV chef, whose new book Simply Healthy Food is out on May 12, spoke about overhauling his lifestyle, after being warned by doctors when he weighed 18 stone that he was ‘heading for an early grave.’
He said: ‘I was a Northern carbohydrate monster who was morbidly obese six years ago and weighed over 18 stone. Si and I were warned we were morbidly obese and heading for an early grave, so our weight loss saved our lives.

‘I’m 6ft, now around 15 stone and aim to drop to 14 stone. I cycle, jog, and eat as healthily as possible. I’d never have managed to take part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2013 if I hadn’t got healthy.’
Dave has suffered with illness in the past after being diagnosed with a cyst on his brain in 1998, and later glaucoma, which is an eye condition that can lead to blindness.
He admits worrying about his health has impacted his mental wellbeing over the years after enduring the loss of both his parents by the time he was just 23.
Dave’s dad died from a stroke and his mum multiple sclerosis, causing him to ‘hate anything to do with illness.’
The same year he was diagnosed with having a cyst on his brain, Dave sadly lost his fiancée to cancer, previously describing 1998 as the worst year of his life.
In celebration of his weight loss, Dave competed in Strictly with pro partner Karen Hauer, 40, and said once he was eliminated it had been a ‘spectacular privilege’ to take part.
Dave met best friend and co-star Si in 1995 and together the duo have gained millions of fans through their popular BBC cookery series and books, as well as their Agony Uncles podcast.
