A model’s life may seem glamorous on the surface – but the reality behind the scenes is often very different.
Supermodel Bella Hadid has opened up about depression, anxiety, and mental health issues in a long and personal post on Instagram.
The in-demand American model, who often shares the fashion runway with her model sister Gigi, told her 47 million Instagram followers that she had cried “every day and every night for years.”
Posting photos of herself crying, the 25-year-old wrote: “This is pretty much my every day, every night, for a few years now.”
“Social media is not real,” she added.
“For anyone struggling, please remember that.
“Sometimes all you’ve gotta hear is that you’re not alone.
“So from me to you, you’re not alone. I love you, I see you, and I hear you.”
Hadid said mental illness and depression was like a “flowing rollercoaster of obstacles.”
“It has its ups and downs, and side to sides,” she wrote.

“But I want you to know, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and the rollercoaster always comes to a complete stop at some point.
“It took me a long time to get that in my mind, but I’ve had enough breakdowns and burnouts to know this: if you work hard enough on yourself, spending time alone to understand your traumas, triggers, joys, and routine, you will always be able to understand or learn more about your own pain and how to handle it.
“Which is all that you can ask of yourself.
“Anyways (sic), not sure why but it feels harder and harder to not share my truth on here.
“Thank you for seeing me and thank you for listening. I love you.”
Hadid also uploaded a video of actor Will Smith’s daughter, Willow Smith, talking about her mental health.
“People forget that everyone is basically feeling the same way: lost, confused, not really sure why they’re here,” Smith says in the video.
“That anxiety, everyone is feeling that, and trying to cover it up in some way.”

The response from Hadid’s fans was immediate and heartfelt.
“Your honesty and tenderness heals so many,” Willow Smith wrote.
“Thank you for sharing your truth, and just so you know: you are enough, you always were, you always will be,” another follower wrote.
“I haven’t seen anything I related to more on the internet all year. Thank you bella angel,” another said.
Hadid’s revelations come in the wake of a controversy surrounding her sister Gigi, mother Yolanda, and Gigi’s former partner, One Direction singer Zayn Malik.

Yolanda Hadid publicly accused Malik of hitting her during a family argument on September 29.
Malik was fined, placed on probation and required to complete an anger management class and a domestic violence program.
